THE BRIEF

Situated in the Art Gallery of NSW’s historic Naala Nura building, The Grand Courts feature artworks from the gallery’s historical international and Australian collections, with a small group of contemporary artworks included to encourage moments of pause and offer new perspectives. 

Audiocraft was approached to help ideate and produce a series of audio stops that would help highlight the powerful conversations that this curation has invited between Indigenous and non-Indigenous art, as well as surface the hidden stories behind some of the gallery’s most popular works.

WHAT WE DID

Positive collaboration is at the heart of all Audiocraft productions so from the beginning of the project, we worked closely with the AGNSW team to develop and test the tone of voice and stylistic direction that would both invite the interest of the educated art enthusiast, alongside curious art-beginners. 

Once this balance was achieved, we engaged a trusted composer to interpret the tonal palette of the works being discussed. Four original compositions were created, each one designed to match and enhance a different mood or tone present in the diversity of artworks and stories. 

Staying true to the tonal variation between the stops, a decision was made to use multiple voices to record the scripts. This not only gave each stop a unique perspective but, as an evergreen and expanding collection of audio, this will allow flexibility and diversity as more works are added in the future.
